Project Overview

FM successfully led a Halon Reclamation Project aimed at mitigating the environmental impact of this ozone-depleting substance (ODS) while ensuring compliance with international regulations such as the Montreal Protocol.

As Halon is no longer manufactured due to its harmful effects on the ozone layer, many industries still rely on legacy fire suppression systems containing this substance. Our project focused on the safe extraction and reclamation of Halon stocks from QatarEnergy facilities, ensuring environmentally responsible handling and disposal while aligning with global sustainability efforts.

Scope of Work

Cylinder Collection – Safely collect and transport Halon-filled cylinders from the QatarEnergy facility to a certified reclamation site.

Halon Recovery – Extract Halon using specialized equipment to prevent leakage and ensure safe handling.

Documentation & Reporting – Maintain detailed records of the recovery process, including volume, purity levels, and compliance reports.

Regulatory Compliance – Ensure the entire process aligns with international and local environmental laws for responsible reclamation.

Through this project, FM reinforces its commitment to environmental responsibility, regulatory compliance, and industry-leading fire safety solutions.

Key Achievements

FM successfully completed the installation of fire-rated steel doors across 18 buildings, ensuring enhanced fire protection and regulatory compliance.

Timely Completion – All doors were installed within the designated project timeline.

Certified Fire Protection – Ensured doors met the required fire-resistance ratings and adhered to local fire safety codes.

Compliance & Documentation – Provided full certification and safety documentation for all 18 buildings.

Challenges Overcome

Leak Prevention & Safety – Implemented strict safety measures to ensure the controlled extraction of Halon, preventing leaks and accidents.

Efficient Logistics – Overcame logistical challenges by developing a secure transport system, preventing delays or damage during transit.

Advanced Purification – Successfully managed the gas purification process, removing contaminants and restoring Halon to optimal purity levels.

Regulatory Adherence – Navigated complex environmental regulations, ensuring full compliance with international and local legal standards.

Conclusion

FM successfully executed the Halon Reclamation Project at the QatarEnergy facility, recovering Halon gas from decommissioned fire suppression cylinders. This project ensured environmental responsibility and full compliance with international laws, particularly the Montreal Protocol.
